APPFE's scope of competence includes sectors such as water and wastewater, waste management, urban heating, etc., and its field of activity covers technical and management issues, public procurement, the development and management of investment programs and projects financed from European and national funds, the optimization of legislation and technical regulations/standards.

APPFE's portfolio of activities also includes concerns related to the preparation and launch of activities and projects aimed at the professionalization/re-professionalization of specialists in the environmental sector, with the involvement of the Romanian academic environment from higher technical education institutions.
